Oscar Pistorius could be forced to return to jail
The pictures of the small prison cell Oscar Pistorius was held in for nearly a year have been released.
Oscar Pistorius will discover if he faces a return to jail on Thursday when South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal rules on whether he should receive a murder conviction for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Prosecutors said Pistorius, 29, should be convicted of murder and sent back to jail because he knew the person behind the door could be killed when he fired.
The appeals court can also order a retrial or rule that Pistorius’ manslaughter conviction was correct.
Sky’s Special Correspondent Alex Crawford, in Johannesburg, said the court has been considering the prosecution’s appeal for two to three weeks, as it centres on how the judge in the original trial interpreted the law.
The double-amputee athlete was released from jail in secret last month and moved to house arrest.
In the shooting’s aftermath, he lost his glittering sports career, lucrative contracts and status as a global role model for the disabled.
His release after serving one-sixth of his sentence was in line with normal treatment of South African convicts, but was criticised by women’s rights groups and many others in the country.
His parole conditions have not been made public, but are reported to require him to meet with Steenkamp’s parents if they wish.
