Week 12 Preview: Dolphins at Jets

The Dolphins finally converted a third down deep in the third quarter – the Jets had stopped them on 20 in a row, including New York’s victory at London. PASSING OFFENSE: A. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick (22-of-37, 277 yards, four touchdowns, no interceptions) played his most flawless and efficient game of the season.

The Dolphins only rushed the ball nine times for 12 yards.

Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw for 351 yards and three touchdowns in the defeat but all three scores and 238 of his yards came after the Jets took a 21-0 lead.

Along with the play-calling shake-up, Phil McGeoghan was promoted to wide receivers coach. The Jets also had three sacks of Tannehill, who was 33-for-58 and made numerous inaccurate throws.

Now the No. 7 seed in the AFC, the 6-5 Jets are right in the mix of a conference that features seven clubs that are a game above/below.500. Receiver Jarvis Landry (13 catches for 165 yards and one touchdown) had a career-best day, but cornerback Buster Skrine did a fine job limiting the damage other than on a 40-yard catch down the left sideline. Running back Bilal Powell (six catches for 28 yards, two catches for seven yards) had another solid game while Fitzpatrick gained 21 yards on five carries. Fitzpatrick has never been to the postseason and he’ll try to get there in his fourth season working with Chan Gailey. Now, with the Jets at 6-5, Fitzpatrick might wind up reaching the playoffs for the first time in his career.

Matthews was hurt on a hard hit from Calvin Pryor, who celebrated the play several yards away. “It was a good hit, a clean hit”.

“It’s just another step for us to get ourselves in the right direction”, Fitzpatrick said. “But to celebrate when a guy’s down is kind of a classless move”. “Hey, if the Dolphins want to use the Louisville product and first-rounder regularly and see what they have, sign me up, but there’s no proof it will occur in 2015”.

Pryor then Tweeted: “I was definitely celebrating the great play I made”. The receiver even doled out a crucial block on Chris Ivory’s 31-yard, game-icing touchdown run in the fourth quarter. “I have more confidence this week than I would have last week because now I know he has a full game under his belt”.
