Volunteers needed for Christmas Campaign
“Every month, the Salvation Army does a hot meal the last week of every month, and we wanted to give a Thanksgiving to the people who come every month”.
The Salvation Army would also like to thank the community and those who donated the food to make this Thanksgiving meal possible.
“At least 80 percent of all money given locally stays locally, so it helps us to serve these here in Oktibbeha County and the surround counties that we also serve”, Walker said.
“Like all of us, these families want to enjoy some special times at Christmas, to swap gifts with each other and make great memories”, Major Waugh said.
“It’s wonderful to help people”, she said.
The Salvation Army helps those in need year round but on days like thanksgiving they understand the importance of keeping the same people in holiday spirit.
Target donated most of the food to fill the plates and the helping hands to serve them.
Whether it’s at Bentleyville, the new toy store in Duluth, Legacy Toys or the Salvation Army itself, there are dozens of places where you can drop off a new toy for the Toyland Express.
Poe says they are always looking for volunteers. “The Salvation Army has over 80 programs that serve the community throughout the year”, said Stutzman.
Volunteers are needed to ring bells.
“Everyone should take the time out to pause and think about those who are less fortunate and just remember today as God would do us”, said Jerry bowman, Shreveport city councilman.
With Black Friday being the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season, many are focused on snagging a good deal.
The volunteers handled everything from cooking 50 pounds of potatoes to preparing items from stuffing to pumpkin pie, not to mention the main dish: the turkey.
