Cyber Monday Deals to Watch Out For
Cyber Monday is expected to add to one of the busiest weekends for online shopping, following Black Friday.
For weeks now, Adobe reports on-line retailers have been hitting consumers with emails heralding their planned discounts, contributing to on-line sales increasing by more than 14 percent on Black Friday compared to previous year. And although the number of in-store shoppers are still huge, the data from National Retail Federation shows that the numbers are an encouraging sign for online retailers.
Research suggested that shoppers filled their virtual shopping carts on their smartphones and tablets more than laptop and desktop computers.
Target on Friday reported a successful start to its Black Friday weekend, with unprecedented results on Target.com and a strong turnout in stores on Thanksgiving Day.
It’s a good day for shoppers who prefer being online to standing in line. According to cyber security expert Dave Whitelegg, lots of breach of security on credit and debit cards happen during this online shopping holiday of the year.
Some of the attractive ETF deals are First Trust Dow Jones Internet Index ( FDN ), PowerShares Nasdaq Internet Portfolio ( PNQI ), Market Vectors Retail ETF ( RTH ), SPDR S&P Retail ETF ( XRT ), iShares U.S. Consumer Services ETF ( IYC ), Vanguard Consumer Discretionary ETF ( VCR ) and Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund ( XLY ). The National Retail Federation says Cyber Monday is becoming more and more popular as people prefer to avoid the crowds in stores.
EBay has promised up to 70 percent off during its Cyber Monday sale, which is to begin on Sunday at 9 p.m. PST.
Shoppers are expected to spend nearly £1bn online on Monday – up nearly a third from past year, according to analysts at Experian-IMRG. Throughout the day, Target will also offer 75 “e-doorbusters”, almost three quarters of which will be offered at more than 50 percent off their retail price.
Somewhat more encouragingly, RetailNext noted that while it found Black Friday was down 1.8 percent, the decline was considerably smaller than the monthly declines experienced throughout spring, summer and autumn of 2015.
“That extra 5 percent convinced me to buy a few more”, she said. Now, even with broadband access, Cyber Monday continues to be a day when retailers pull out big promotions.
Several stores are participating in Cyber Monday including Target, Kohls and Macy’s. The name was also a nod to online shopping being done at work where faster connections made it easier to browse.
