Woman suffers infections caused by hair tie
She says she won’t be wearing hair ties on her wrist anymore, but the story is gaining national attention because the practice is so common. However, your views on doing this in the future might change after reading this.
But Audree Kopp recently learned that keeping hair ties on her wrist could prove fatal. She thought that she would be able to tie up her hair whenever she wanted. As reported by WLKY, Kopp wasn’t anxious about the bump on her wrist until it kept getting bigger instead of going away.
“Thank God I caught it in time, or I could have had sepsis”, she explained. WLKY-TV reports that Audree Kopp had emergency surgery because of the type of hair-tie she wore. “So I basically made an incision and drained the puss all the way down to the layers of the skin”, Dr. Gupta told the station.
But a woman who suffered 3 severe bacterial infections – believed to be caused by wearing a bobble around her wrist – is now warning others of the risks.
The doctor predicts Kopp will make a full recovery. “It can cause infection”. But one Kentucky woman’s harrowing tale may cause you to reconsider this accessory altogether.
Doctors say the risk of infection increases if the bands are especially tight around your wrist, and/or if they’re left there for long periods of time, which allows them to collect bacteria.
“It could have been a whole different ballgame, once it gets into your bloodstream, you know, people are known to go into a coma, your body shuts down”, Kopp claimed.
Kopp wrote on her Facebook, “The glitter tie is the one that caused this issue”.
