Australia to schedule more day-night Tests: CA
Australia snapped the Windies’ remarkable 15-year, 29-series unbeaten Test run by reclaiming the Frank Worrell Trophy in 1995 from the hosts in the Caribbean.
The lack of an adequate preparation was blamed for New Zealand’s slow start in its three-Test series against Australia, but Richardson said he was confident his players would quickly adapt for the first Test in Hobart, starting next Thursday.
West Indies arrived in Australia last week to begin preparation for the three-Test rubber set to bowl off on December 10 in Hobart.
However, David Saker, Victoria and former England coach, blasted the selectors for their decision to select Coulter-Nile ahead of numerous pacers who have performed well in the domestic circuit in recent times.
“Once Mitchell Starc went down, I assume everybody’s thoughts turned straight to Nathan Coulter-Nile”, he advised reporters at Adelaide Oval on Tuesday. The 28-year old Coulter-Nile has not played any of the Sheffield Shield games so far, but Rod Marsh has complete faith in the seasoned limited-overs bowler.
Boland has been put on standby, with the player of the match in Adelaide, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood, having shouldered a heavy workload in the three Tests against the Black Caps and veteran quick Peter Siddle is battling a back injury.
National selectors will be forced to make one change to the XI, with Pattinson coming in for injured spearhead Mitchell Starc.
After the retirement of their senior players post the 2015 Ashes, Australia have set off on the right foot by beating New Zealand 2-0 in the recently concluded Trans-Tasman Trophy.
“We are constantly striving to give cricket fans what they want and as such, with the endorsement of visiting countries, we will seek to schedule more day-night Tests”.
“Not only do we have the pace but I think we have bowlers to extract the movement”, Holder said.
Saker voiced concerns over Pattinson’s readiness for Test cricket when the injury-prone Victorian firebrand was added to the Australian squad 12 days ago.
“When I played the game I never underestimated anyone”, he said.
“You’ve got to respect a bloke when he retires … you don’t go there”. However, Peter Siddle has a back niggle and team management have been anxious about Josh Hazlewood’s workloads since the first Test against New Zealand.
