G Evans to return to Pelicans
Expect a minutes restriction similar to what Jrue Holiday is now following (about 25), for the time being. And he’ll have to earn minutes, given the unexpectedly good play the Pelicans have gotten from another backup point guard, Ish Smith.
He was also responsible for helping replace the various pieces missing the Pelicans’ guard rotation, including a minutes-restricted (and absent on back-to-backs) Holiday along with the missing Evans and Cole. Evans was the Pelicans’ best offensive player with 20 points and 10 assists, but that wasn’t enough to overcome a Memphis squad that scored 52 points in the paint and missed only one of 26 free throws. Cole hasn’t played a game all season, but like Evans, he is also set to return against Memphis. Lee had a decent game with 13 points and four rebounds while Barnes had 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists. We shot 70 percent in the first quarter. “I think it gives you a sense of rejuvenation, and it gives you a positive outlook as to what can happen in the future”.
Memphis now sits at 11-8 on the season after starting a lowly 3-6 and are steadily riding in the surprisingly struggling Western Conference. Just kept wondering if the Pelicans should go get a small forward before remembering they have a decent 3-and-D wing on the mend. He was a flawless 16-for-16 at the line, using a variety of moves and using the aggressiveness of Pelicans defenders against them. They want to play possession by possession. We had some nice pick and roll plays with Evans and Davis and we had a few plays were Evans hit Anderson as he was coming off some screens. “It’s been a tough week or 10 days as far as me playing, and I wanted to take a different approach to the game, and it worked”. “I can see and find my niche out there”. Between (Marc) Gasol and Zach (Randolph) and even a guy like Mike Conley who do such a good job of getting into you and disrupt what you’re doing. And while it’s not a fresh start for the Pelicans, it means at least that they can’t afford to continue the start they’ve had. Hopefully that starts a trend. I take responsibility for where we are.
