Has Trump won over black pastors?
Some of them apparently were thinking of endorsing, but others simply wanted to hear what he had to say while yet others wanted to let him know that he needed to lighten up on his rhetoric, especially in light of the Black Lives Matter incident. “[His tone] works well for where he came from-corporate America, the board room-But I think the leader of the free world has to be a little more sensitive, a little more engaging”.
You’d think that tone deaf ramble would be the centerpiece of Trump’s humiliating Monday, but it actually got worse.
He said that, if anything, he and the then police commissioner Bernard Kerik feared retaliatory attacks against Muslim Americans, and were “very proud” that there were few incidents. “I had friends that served, and they’re very proud and some are no longer with us because of the fact that they served”.
What if Trump announced endorsements by black pastors, and none of the aforementioned pastors owned up to the endorsement? So the thing is, how do you convey a person’s heart with their personality?
Davis, though, explained that the meeting with Trump, despite previous claims made by the campaign, “was never about endorsing” the Republican presidential candidate, and said that history was made, as 100 black faith leaders had met with a GOP hopeful. “I thought it was an incredible meeting”, Trump told reporters.
Wrenn said Trump is showing that he’s tough, but the voters will need to decide if they believe he has the judgment to do what he has promised. “I was there”, Christie said. The rise of ISIS and several terrorist attacks in recent weeks – along with President Obama’s ill-timed declaration that ISIS had been “contained” – gives Republican candidates an opening to reclaim the title of “security experts”, says USA TODAY’s Rick Hampson.
Trump’s campaign estimated total attendance at 12,000. But I do remember a number of reports of people celebrating.
Scott appeared with him, as did Omarosa Manigault, a former contestant on Trump’s reality show The Apprentice.
“It’s clear what’s going on here – the GOP saw the incredible victories we won last month, decisively winning races from top to bottom, and now they’re running scared”, the McGinty campaign wrote.
Thank you Mr. Trump for bringing issues to the forefront, and thank you for engaging many in the discussion who have not been engaged before. “All I can say is, I have not endorsed him, and I’m not likely to”.
