Kevin McCarthy: Planned Parenthood Probe Goes on

As previously reported, Gov. Robert Bentley’s office wrote a letter to Planned Parenthood Southeast this past August, providing notice that the Alabama Medicaid office would discontinue the state’s agreement with the abortion giant. “But I see a lot of anxiety and I see a lot of dislike for Planned Parenthood”.

His insistence comes in spite of efforts by pro-choice activists to shut down the probe by citing last week’s fatal shootings at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado.

Planned Parenthood said any payments were legally permitted reimbursements for the costs of donating organs to researchers, and has since stopped accepting even that money.

Planned Parenthood Southeast asserted in the proposed settlement agreement that the Alabama clinics do not participate in tissue donation.

According to reports, the state had reimbursed Planned Parenthood for over $4,000 for birth control and STD testings over the past year. The White House has threatened to veto the legislation and it is not clear whether it has enough support to pass the Senate.

Planned Parenthood gets about one-third of its annual $1.3 billion budget from Washington. Medicaid only pays for abortions in the case of rape or incest or when a mother’s life is in danger. PPSE CEO Staci Fox said in a statement they were “pleased the state has backed off of a costly and wasteful attempt to restrict care for Alabama women”. “We have a responsibility as leaders to think very hard about what we say and do in this context”.

The full Planned Parenthood Select Committee has yet to meet and is now in the process of hiring staff, said Rep. Diane Black, a Republican member appointed to the committee, in an interview.

Huckabee would do well to remember that fetuses are not, in fact, human babies and that Planned Parenthood is certainly not dismembering them.

McCarthy also contested remarks by Planned Parenthood defenders that harsh language by the group’s critics helped create a hostile political environment that could encourage people to react violently against the organization.

Despite the violence and growing concerns over safety at Planned Parenthood locations across the country, Rouse said employees here in CT remain focused on serving their patients and will not let fear stop them from doing their jobs.
