Liverpool top of league for fees spent on agents
Liverpool have been revealed as the top payers of agents in the past year, topping the Premier League table at £14.3m.
Figures released by the Premier League show City paid £4,057,727 to agents for the period between October last year and the start of September this year, when the summer transfer window closed. Gokhan Inler came in for £5m from Napoli and Nathan Dyer completed City’s business when he arrived on loan from Swansea. The amounts included payments paid by clubs on behalf of players.
This period included 172 inbound transfers and loans in the Premier League and 542 new or updated contracts.
As we all know, despite the TV cash mountain, the Premier League is the most expensive to watch, with fans in countries such as Germany staring in disbelief at the greed of English clubs and even more so, at the fact that fans quietly accept the situation.
It could be down to deals like James Milner’s free transfer from City and big-money signings Christian Benteke and Firmino, while clubs have been known to stagger agent payments, meaning Mario Balotelli’s annus horribilis could also feature in the total.
The exact total spent by the current 20 top flight clubs was 129.86 million pounds, compared to the second tier’s 26.1 million, 3.2 million in League One and 1 million pounds in League Two.
