#PopeBars Twitter Hashtag Combines Photo of Pope Francis With Rap Lyrics
When Pope Francis was pictured picking up a microphone with his other hand stretched out horizontally, people on the Internet thought he looked like a rapper.
With eight million followers on Twitter, and head of the world’s largest church, Pope Francis would have no shortage of fans if he made a decision to produce his own “Popebars”, as social media users have labelled his music.
AND on this day the Lord delivered… a Pope that can rap.
The #PopeBars hashtag swept Twitter on Monday, with hundreds of people posting Drake, Eminem and Kanye-style verses underneath the image.
It was released on iTunes Nov. 13 and includes 11 tracks in Spanish, Italian, English, and Portuguese that deal with the pope’s hallmark issues, such as the environment, poverty, youth, and faith.
As did House of Pain’s “Jump Around” and Notorious B.I.G.’s “It was all a dream” lyrics.
Snapped by South African based photographer Gianluigi Guercia of Agence France Presse, the picture has been shared across the world.
Pope Francis paid an unscheduled visit to patients at a pediatric hospital in Bangui, Central African Republic on Sunday afternoon, as part of his three-nation tour of Africa.
The pontiff, known for being a far more liberal pope than some of his predecessors and for connecting to millenials through social media, spoke to the Christian and Muslim communities about their conflict, preaching peace and forgiveness.
