Arsenal injuries: Sánchez and Cazorla could miss key Olympiakos match
The Arsenal boss started his attacking star despite the fact that he had previously revealed Sanchez had suffered “a little hamstring alarm” after scoring twice in Tuesday’s 3-0 Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb.
Sanchez limped out of Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at Norwich City on Sunday with a hamstring injury.
He added: “I can understand that you worry for us, but trust us, we will be there”, Wenger said.
In what is a double blow, the paper also claims that Cazorla will miss the trip to Greece after picking up a knee injury at the weekend.
We’ll know more this week about Sanchez’s status, but it seemingly appears that he could be out for a very long time. We’ve had a bad spell of three games where we took only two points, but we’re still not far and that’s alright. We will have to assess the injury in the week. To rub salt into the wounds, more injuries befell the Arsenal ranks as Alexis Sanchez pulled up with what looked to be a hamstring strain after a challenge in the Norwich box.
Arsenal are dealing with an injury crisis at present, with Sanchez joining the likes of Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck on the sidelines.
Arsenal are facing up to the prospect of being without the hugely influential Alexis Sánchez and Santi Cazorla for their decisive Champions League group game against Olympiakos next week, though initial assessments of Laurent Koscielny’s fitness are more promising.
“Yes, it was hard to rest him today because you want to win, but I go back to the Zagreb game”.
He also pointed out that the players have had a lot on their plates without much rest recently so we should be fresher for the next game against Sunderland with no midweek action in between.
He told reporters after the match: “The players are there to play football and not to be rested when the press decides they need to be rested”. He scored, he had a good game and he didn’t get injured. “The only thing we need to do is go out onto the pitch with the right mentality, it does not matter who we play”.
He said what happened at Norwich, where the home side’s Lewis Grabban struck to wipe out an opening goal by Mesut Ozil, “was not a great experience”.
“Hector Bellerin, I took him off because he had a groin problem just before so I had to take them off meaning I could not take Alexis off. We now have five days to recover”.
