Adele’s ’25’ sells record 3.38 million copies in U.S.
It makes Adele the first person to notch two albums in the top ten since Prince’s simultaneous releases of Art Official Age and Plectrumelectrum in October of previous year.
In the U.S., NIELSEN MUSIC reports ADELE sold a record-shattering 3.38 million copies in week one.
Adele just broke the record for selling 3.38 million copies of her latest album in only one week.
The industry-shaking release roll-out – which included an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” and a promotional partnership with Target, the biggest retailer for physical 25 sales – comes after a period of public silence following Adele’s previous album, 21.
1 million: The single, Hello, became the first track to sell more than 1 million downloads in a week. It is the only song on the album which is available for streaming. One Direction’s Made in the A.M. similarly fell one spot to Number Three, while Jadakiss’ Top 5 Dead or Alive, the rapper’s first album in over six years, debuted at Number Four with 66,000 copies sold.
Speaking of the holidays, Adele’s accomplishment is all the more remarkable because the period for her first week sales did not even include Black Friday and the rest of the big holiday shopping weekend, although it did include Thanksgiving.
Adele got a lot of bang for her buck with her new 25 album.
“It has been sort of accepted wisdom since the turn of the millennium that a first-week record that does north of 2.1 or 2.2. million units is a thing of the past”, he said. ‘N Sync was one of the most popular boy bands in the world, selling millions of albums and dominating the music scene in the ’90s and 2000s with other groups including the Backstreet Boys. 25 looks primed to best that number. Still, chances are most people didn’t see this coming. Apparently everyone, and that means everyone, loves her – and the proof is in the pudding.
