Celery products pulled from Montana stores due to E. coli outbreak
Starbucks’ sandwiches have been recalled in certain locations in California, Oregon and Nevada.
There seems to be no end to E.coli scare that has already gripped Costco Wholesale and now, it is the turn of Starbucks Corp. The said ingredient came from Taylor Farms Pacific of Tracy, which is now recalling its selected products as they may include celery which could potentially contain E. coli 0157:H7.
The products recalled were labelled “Holiday Turkey & Stuffing” and have expiration dates of November 27, 2015 to November 28, 2015.
In a press release issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the products, including Starbucks’ holiday turkey sandwiches, were recalled out of an “abundance of caution” due to the contaminated vegetable blend. This concern is directly linked to the recent Costco e.coli outbreak.
The Montana Department of Health and Human Services said Taylor Farms Pacific, which supplies the ingredients suspected to be behind the outbreak, has recalled the celery products, which were at Costco, Albertsons, Safeway, Sam’s Club and Walmart stores. Two of the 19 people sickened in this outbreak have been diagnosed with HUS.
Infection by the Escherichia coli O157:H7 can cause severe diarrhea, anemia and kidney failure, as well as other symptoms depending on the type of E.coli, according to the CDC.
Experts have suggested that it is very common for people to have E.coli in their intestines, but some of its forms can turn out fatal. The life-threatening disease most commonly affects the youth and the elderly. The condition can lead to serious kidney damage and even death.
