Vegetable Mix Source of Costco Chicken Salad E. Coli Outbreak, CDC Says
According to the FDA, in addition to Costco, Taylor Farms also distributes the mix to salads and party trays carried by stores such as 7-Eleven, Walmart, Pantry, Raley’s, Savemart, Albertson’s, Safeway, Vons, Starbucks, Target, Tony’s, Walmart, Sam’s Club, and King Sooper; all items which have been subject to recall.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the number of people sick will likely rise in the next few weeks even though the product has been removed from store shelves.
Though it’s common for people to have E. coli in their intestines, some forms of the bacteria are risky. The illness count now stands at 19, with one consumer from California, Missouri, Virginia, Washington, six from Montana, five from Utah, and four from Colorado. The link was made after the Montana Department of Public Health found a diced celery blend tested positive for E. coli. Their celery-inclusive vegetable mixes included items such as Thai-style salads as well as packaged dinners and wraps. They can cause diarrhea and get transmitted to others through food and water.
UPI has a statement from Dr. William Schaffner, a professor of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University, who commented on the seriousness of this E. Coli outbreak. “So it’s a much more hazardous strain than the one that involved the Chipotle restaurants”. Two of them developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), but no death has been reported yet.
A recent E. coli outbreak tied to Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. has sickened at least 43 customers who ate at the chain.
Some of the symptoms of E.coli include nausea, abdominal pain, cramps, fatigue and fever.
