Tony Romo Injured, Confirmed Out for Season
The fact that the X-rays on Tony Romo’s left clavicle were inconclusive did nothing more than to tease Dallas Cowboys fans into thinking that there was a slight chance their starting quarterback would be back sometime this year.
Romo injured the same left collarbone that sidelined him for all seven games of a losing streak that damaged the playoff hopes for the defending NFC East champion Cowboys (3-8).
Even if Romo stays healthy, it’s fair to wonder if his play will slip soon. They have allowed at least 45 points in two straight games in one season for the first time in team history. The Cowboys will always go as far as Tony Romo can take them. A CT scan awaits Romo sometime Friday. Romo’s Week 2 collarbone injury was a clean break, one Jerry Jones described as a “shattering” of the bone with at least six separate fractures. A follow-up check-up on the collarbone is expected later this week and could decide the status of Romo. It was a nice game, but Dallas needs to capitalize better when it comes to hitting the quarterback and forcing turnovers, especially when their offense plays so bad.
Romo completed 11 of 21 passes for 106 yards and three interceptions before getting hurt.
But things where looking up for the Cowboys after Romo returned in Week 10 to help beat the Miami Dolphins at home.
We felt that the risk was worth the potential of having him be the impact he can be and he is on our team, Jones said on his radio show.
Romo, who played in just two complete games this season, threw five touchdowns and seven interceptions in four games.
But undefeated teams this late in a season don’t deter the Cowboys or Romo. You should never quit trying to do something that is extraordinary. The linebacker looked a little winded on the return, eventually settling for a 17-yarder that led to the third of Graham Gano’s four field goals to put the Panthers up 23-3 at halftime. “Defense went out there and brought their A-game and made our job a lot easier”.
QUIET HARDY REUNION: Dallas defensive end Greg Hardy had a quiet game against his former team, finishing without any tackles and missing most of the second half with an injury Garrett wouldn’t specify. Part of that plan revolves around being one of the dozen or so teams that feels it can depend on a Pro Bowl-level performance from its quarterback. “He’s not quite cleared the concussion protocol and unless we get good news tomorrow, then Nick will be our starter”.
