Leicester can win Premier League, claims Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal
A win will see the Red Devils leapfrog Leicester as United seek to finish the weekend top of the Premier League.
“He was already past year a very nasty player for us”.
Vardy equalled the Dutchman’s record with his first-half strike at Newcastle, a goal which saw the striker become the only English player ever to score at least once in 10 successive Premier League matches.
“Van Nistelrooy didn’t play so much with me, I was at Ajax and he was at PSV. It’s not so easy to do that”.
United lost 5-3 on its last visit to the King Power Stadium, when Jamie Vardy was one of the scorers.
Not a ringing endorsement – but there’s a chance!
“We are still second so we are still in the qualifying position and we have to do it in Wolfsburg but that is more hard”, he added. “I am very satisfied with him”, insisted the 64-year old Dutch chief.
The Leicester boss signed Martial for Monaco from Lyon in 2013, before United shelled out £36 million ($76.5m) to bring him to Old Trafford in the summer.
United may be second in the Premier League and undefeated in five matches, but some of their fans are still not happy about life under Louis van Gaal.
“You can like or dislike him, and like or dislike his team’s playing style but football does not have just one way of getting results – I think every coach has the right to work with his own philosophy if he gets the desired results”. It’s not important how strong the defensive line is.
“Leicester are doing well, it’s a top of the table clash so we will be looking to keep the good form we have shown over the last few weeks”.
United’s defence has improved greatly since then, but Van Gaal is aware of the threat Vardy will pose to his team.
“You have to see how our opponents are playing against us, and when you see how they play then you know also the difficulty to disorganise that kind of opponent”, he said.
The manager Van Gaal says he will assess his squad after what he has called an “intense” Champions League game in mid-week against PSV Einhoven, which ended 0-0.
Manchester United will remain without Ander Herrera, Phil Jones, Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw, while Michael Carrick and Jesse Lingard are doubts.
