Volvo reveals new S90 executive saloon
These are the first official shots of Volvo’s much-anticipated S90, essentially a saloon-shaped reinterpretation of the brilliant XC90 SUV which will rival the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class.
The new Volvo S90 is due to be presented on Wednesday. The result is handsome and quite elegant, with the S90 heavily influenced by the XC90 – especially up front in the grille and the headlights, once again complete with LED daytime running lights styled as ‘Thor’s hammer, ‘ as it were. Both versions uses a turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine, with the T6 making around 316 hp.
The S90 is part of Volvo’s three-pronged strategy of increasing volume and profit while moving upmarket.
Semi-autonomous driving aids will include lane steering assistance which will operate at speeds of up to 130km/h.
The S90 will also come with Volvo’s City Safety system, but the new saloon will debut an additional function of this safety gadget – large animal detection.
We’ll bring you full details on the all-new S90 when it makes its public debut at the North American International Auto Show next month in Detroit.
Volvo is to launch the first plug-in hybrid in the executive segment next year, with the S90 T8 Twin engine expected to attract true fleet customers thanks to its 44g/km Carbon dioxide emissions. “With $11 Dollars billion of investment over the past five years we have not only reimagined what Volvo Cars can be – we are now delivering on our promise of a resurgent and relevant Volvo Cars brand”, said Håkan Samuelsson, President & CEO, Volvo Car Group.
The Detroit motor show takes place in January 2016 and will be the event that we finally get to see the all-new Volvo S90 unveiled.
