McCarthy: No shutdown over Planned Parenthood
Colorado Springs investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive in the deadly shooting at the Planned Parenthood clinic there, but a law enforcement official reportedly said the alleged shooter mentioned “baby parts” after the shooting.
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy insists there won’t be any government shutdown over taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood.
Congress needs to clear the giant government funding bill by December 11 to avoid a shutdown. By all accounts he is a troubled, mentally unstable man, but officials from Planned Parenthood claim he had also expressed hostility to abortion and to their organization in particular.
“This has been an ongoing issue for years now”, the freshman Republican senator said. “Exposing the inner-workings of Planned Parenthood in an undercover investigation isn’t “hateful rhetoric”; it enables illuminating and civil discussion about inhumane barbarity”, Bombarger said, as quoted by Christian News. “That has proven disastrous to our country”. More than 100 House Republicans signed a letter opposing the inclusion of that funding in the spending bill.
Despite Friday’s attacks, Planned Parenthood’s facilities remained open at the weekend. “It would be like saying we have complaints about education reform in America so there are school shootings. And to connect those two is total irresponsible behavior”.
Other states have faced their own legal obstacles in attempting to defund the healthcare organization. Called a budget reconciliation bill, it would also repeal parts of President Obama’s healthcare law. But he declined to say whether Republican rhetoric over Planned Parenthood had gone too far towards feeding a toxic atmosphere.
A vote on that measure is expected by the end of the week, according to Senate GOP aides.
That legislation will not become law, however, as President Obama is certain to veto it if it reaches his desk.
The Blaze reports that during a campaign stop Sunday in Iowa, Cruz responded to multiple questions reporters asked about the pro-life movement and the shooting. The restraining order is set to expire on Wednesday.
Senate Republicans are prepared to forge ahead this week with a legislative tactic to fast track a bill to dismantle Obamacare and defund Planned Parenthood. When a violent act happens at a Planned Parenthood (pph) facility (most recent in Colorado Springs) the left goes on “auto-pilot” blaming everyone insight when they should be looking in a mirror.
“Both sides should knock off the partisan games and name-calling”, Mr. Coffman said. I don’t think that’s something that is beyond the pale of our political discussion; I think it’s a serious, legitimate issue.
The Colorado GOP sent out a statement of support for the victims of the shooting on November 27, but on Tuesday, Steve House, chairman of the Colorado Republican Party, released another statement in response to the controversial posts and tweets from those in the GOP. The controversy has led to a debate in Congress over defunding the organization.
