Mercedes Driver Nico Rosberg Takes Third Consecutive Win
The 2015 Formula One season has ended with the final race being held at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
Nov 2, 2014; Austin, TX, USA; Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton (44) of Great Britain, Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg (6) of Germany, and Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo (3) of Australia take the podium after the 2014 U.S. Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas.
“I am excited about how the end of the season went”, Rosberg said.
It was his sixth consecutive pole and third consecutive win, to leave himself full of confidence ahead of the winter break. The 2015 Driver’s Championship was won by British Driver Lewis Hamilton while the Constructor’s Championship was won by the German team, Mercedes. “Today was really a flawless race”.
But Wolff said: “I wouldn’t say it is the most likely suspicion”.
While Mercedes are way of the threat posed by Ferrari next year, it is the all-conquering Silver Arrows who will remain the team to beat. The German made no secret that he wishes that 2016 “started tomorrow” with his current momentum.
“Next year will be very much an interim year for us, but I believe we can make significant strides”, said team chief Christian Horner. It’s a great battle internally all the time.
“That was a very hard race”. My tyres were done at the end of the first stint sitting behind Nico. It is rumoured that the Mercedes team did not allow Hamilton to push further at the end of the race with his worn-out tires, or so claim his fans.
Both rookies finished an impressive season strongly, Verstappen already sure of ending the season as rookie of the year.
“I am so happy that I found some performance at the end of the season”.
Here, Hamilton was second best to his Mercedes team-mate and arch rival – his only serious rival – just as he has been since securing his third title in Texas a month ago.
“What I can say is that there have been a lot of discussions lately about whether Nico has stepped up, whether the vehicle has come more towards him development-wise, or whether Lewis has unconsciously just taken it a bit too easy”, said motorsport boss Toto Wolff.
Sebastian Vettel began the race from 16 positon, but drove aggressively to finish fourth, while Force India’s Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg finished fifth and seventh, respectively.
Grosjean, like Vettel, had started on softs after getting a five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change, and used a set of supersofts right at the end to jump Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz and Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat, thus departing the team with two final points which ensured that they stayed ahead of Toro Rosso in the standings.
Alonso believed he was unfairly punished when his McLaren vehicle came into contact with Felipe Nasr’s Sauber, and he could not avoid a collision with Pastor Maldonado’s Lotus.
