Australia call up Coulter-Nile after Starc injury
Australia beat New Zealand 2-0 in the three-Test series but suffered several anxious moments in the final Test in Adelaide when they scraped home by three wickets in pursuit of a meagre 187 for victory, reports CMC.
Concerns about his workload have led to uncapped 26-yr-previous Victorian Scott Boland, one other proper-armer, being placed on standby for the Hobart check.
However, the jury is out on that after the Windies’ woeful start to their four-day clash against a CA XI boasting six players making their first class debut.
Marsh reiterated his mantra that selectors needed to call on a 10-man pace battery.
Siddle’s scans showed no serious injury and he is expected to join the squad in Hobart.
The 25-year-old’s reluctance is understandable, he has been in career-best form recently and managed the issue with cortisone injections.
Lehmann said it was hard for batsmen to see at stages in the night session, and fielding was hard at times square of the wicket, “but they’re only little minor tweaks”.
“End of the day, we’ll sit down as a selection group tomorrow [Monday], get that sorted”.
“Both teams played in the right spirit”, he said.
Peter Nevill could find himself promoted to number six in Australia’s batting order for the first Test against West Indies next month, coach Darren Lehmann has said. Coulter-Nile was to be a strong player of Australia’s planning for the World Cup, that had taken place this year.
He only recently resumed bowling after a shoulder injury and has a history of hamstring trouble.
“It’s meant to allow Tests to be played at night and it’s not meant to differ or change how Test cricket is played”.
“We believe that having the ability to move matches into the evening provides cricket fans with greater access to the game and there is no doubt that this will help grow interest in Test cricket”, said Sutherland.
“It would have been good if he had been playing Shield cricket the whole season and taken 40 wickets”.
“We come with a lot of belief, if you don’t have belief there’s no point in being here”.
Starc spoke to reporters on Monday and seemed genuinely unsure when he would be fit enough to bowl. “We need to make that steady progression forward”. We’ve got to be positive, it’s a game of cricket and we are playing at the highest level.
“The good news for us is it’s not going to be as long as we thought – he’s in a boot for three weeks and we’ll start working from there”, McDermott said.
