Donald Trump Slammed for Mocking Reporter With Disability
Republican candidate Donald Trump is, again, under the spotlight, after mocking a disabled reporter from The Times during a rally in SC on Tuesday.
Jay Ruderman, president of the Boston-based Ruderman Family Foundation, offered to provide the Republican frontrunner with sensitivity training, the New York Times reported on Thursday.
Trump’s exact words, per the footage below, were: “Now the poor guy [Kovaleski], you ought to see the guy, “Uh I don’t know what I said”. “I don’t remember!'”, Mr Trump said during his speech.
“If I did know, I would definitely not say anything about his appearance”, Trump said.
Donald Trump called Saturday for the New York Times to apologize to him for suggesting that he mocked the physical disability of a reporter at the newspaper.
Trump says the Times should apologize to him, but an apology is not in the cards. Serge Kovaleski of The New York Times says he has met Trump repeatedly, interviewing him in his office and talking to him at news conferences.
And for those who haven’t seen, ch-ch-check out the controversial clip (below)!
None of those allegations were ever substantiated and Trump’s claim that “thousands” in New Jersey celebrated the terrorist attacks has been rebutted by law enforcement and government officials.
Kovaleski’s story said authorities had detained “a number of people” in Jersey City who had allegedly been seen at celebrations.
However, in a recent interview the reporter said that he can not remember anyone saying there were thousands or even hundreds of people celebrating.
Kovaleski also tweeted, “I dispute Trump’s claim in today’s NYT”.
The article cited by Trump was written by Kovaleski when he worked for The Washington Post and stated that in the aftermath of September 11.
“I merely mimicked what I thought would be a flustered reporter trying to get out of a statement he made long ago”, Trump said in a statement.
“The sad part about it is, it didn’t in the slightest bit jar or surprise me that Donald Trump would do something this low-rent, given his track record”, the Washington Post reported.
Trump reiterated that had he known, he would have respected Kovaleski’s physical limitations. “I don’t remember.’ He’s going like, ‘Uhhh I don’t remember'”. Ah, I don’t remember what I said!
“We continue to find this behavior outrageous”, a Times spokesperson said Sunday in response to questions from CNNMoney.
