Donald Trump suddenly canceled a press conference to showcase black pastor
“They told me, ‘I don’t know if I’m ready to endorse yet”.
On Monday, Donald Trump continued to claim he saw thousands of American Muslims cheering from New Jersey on 9/11 as the Twin Towers came down.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks to supporters at a campaign rally Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015 at Robarts Arena in Sarasota, Fla.
“Trump plans to meet at his Manhattan offices on Monday with about 100 black evangelical pastors, but on Sunday, campaign officials nixed plans for a press conference following the meeting after several pastors publicly raised concerns that their attendance at the meeting was being mistaken as an endorsement. This is not a press event, but a private meeting, after which, a number of attendees are expected to endorse Mr. Trump’s campaign for President”, Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks said.
Republican presidential candidate New Jersey Governor Chris Christie responded that if a celebration “had happened, I would remember it”. News anchor Chuck Todd asked Trump what kind of proof he has and Trump cited “hundreds” of people calling and tweeting who say it’s true. I saw clip, ad so did many other people. But over the weekend the campaign canceled that event and proceeded only with the private meeting.
In an open letter published on Friday, 114 black religious leaders and academics criticized the clergy members planning to meet Trump for failing, they said, to challenge him over his controversial statements.
Trump has ignited a number of racial controversies on the campaign trail, such as when he suggested a Black Lives Matter heckler “should have been roughed up”.
Like McClendon, Bishop Corletta Vaughn, the Senior Pastor of the Holy Spirit Cathedral of Faith in Detroit, and prominent Atlanta pastor Bishop Paul Morton set the record straight on social media whether or not they’re endorsing Trump.
Trump’s rhetoric has become so belligerent that some political observers, even inside his party, are asking whether he is committed to democratic principles.
TRUMP: I don’t mean I had two calls, I mean hundreds, Chuck. “People were saying they lived in Jersey”.
“Everything I do gets publicity, and probably some of the Black Lives Matter folks called (the pastors) up and said, ‘You shouldn’t meet with Trump”, Trump said on “Morning Joe” on Monday.
Scott goes on to mention that while there may be some pastors who will endorse Trump, there are some who may not endorse him at all. And the people, that’s all you need is a picture, all you need is pastors lined up, you really don’t have to endorse. “Which Black lives do you claim to be liberating”, the leaders wrote.
