Darrelle Revis out: What is Jets’ plan for Miami Dolphins?
Look for him to see the field plenty (and in turn get more touches) as a checkdown- or change-of-pace back.
Editor’s Note: SB Nation’s partner FanDuel is running a $1.25M fantasy football league on Sunday. That’s comparable to Revis, who has allowed 25 completions in 62 attempts for 357 yards, two touchdowns, four interceptions and a team-best opposing passer rating of 43.5, according to Stats.
The current slide started last month, so there’s still time to reverse it. It also should be noted that Todd Bowles’ predecessors, Eric Mangini and Rex Ryan, rallied to make the playoffs after 5-5 and 4-6 starts, respectively, in their first season. “You only have to tell him things once and he’s been consistent since the day I met him” Bowles continued, obviously impressed with his stand in corner.
“We feel it’s best for us to get after him, and make him throw under pressure”, Williams said. “I think that’s what we’ve been missing”. Included in that was a season-high 166 yards on 29 carries against the Dolphins.
“If we can get him up to speed”, Campbell said, “we plan on using him”. He gives us a little more size and length up front. Reserve defensive end/linebacker Chris McCain (hip) is doubtful for the contest, with linebacker Spencer Paysinger (neck) questionable. “They’re all playing about the same right now”.
The Jets blitzed Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill a ton in that London game-a whopping 35 of 48 dropbacks, per PFF. Looking at his game against the Houston Texans, he had a few opportunities to win this game but whether it was due to his poor play at quarterback or the fact that his receiving targets had butterfingers, nothing went in his favor. Miami has to commit to the run early, and they have to stay committed to it, even if they fall behind early.
S Ronald Martin was signed to the Jets’ practice squad Monday, two days after he was waived from the active roster.
Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (10) pulls in a pass for a touchdown as he is defended by New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis (24) during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, in Houston. Revis was largely responsible for guarding wideout Jarvis Landry-no matter where Landry lined up-and he succeeded.
That leaves Kenny Stills, Greg Jennings, and DeVante Parker to pick up any slack. Williams said he spoke to Revis on Friday morning, but they didn’t discuss X’s and O’s.
