Klitschko wants heavyweight rematch with Fury
Speaking ahead of his bout with American Daniel Martz on Saturday, Joseph maintained that if he prepared properly he could beat “any heavyweight in the world”.
He said: “I think it’s fantastic news”. “If I keep improving at the rate I have been doing then I can fight for a world title without a doubt. I told him, ‘I want you next, ‘ and he said, ‘You better have your excuses ready for the press conference, ‘ but I didn’t need any”, he said. Reports say his likely opponent will be Vyacheslav Glazkov, an undefeated heavyweight from Ukraine.
He added: “I don’t know if he [Klitschko] is going to take the rematch or not”.
Wladimir Klitschko is to take up his option of a rematch with Tyson Fury.
Fury believes teaming up with his trainer and uncle Peter in January 2012 saved his boxing career as he was close to retiring.
“I have a pre-Christmas gift for Tyson Fury and all boxing fans around the world”, Klitschko said.
Klitschko’s manager Bernd Boente is potentially open to the idea of the Klitschko-Fury rematch taking place in the United Kingdom if it makes sense as far as the money the fight can generate.
The Ukrainian confirmed after the fight that a rematch clause existed, but there was speculation that the 39-year-old would decide to retire after his 11-year, 22-fight unbeaten streak was ended.
In the immediate aftermath of his victory, Fury sad he had no problem returning to the scene of his triumph. So I guess there was a dance competition going on [not] an actual fight.
“I would describe myself (as British-Irish) to be honest. I’m not homophobic, I’m not racist, I’m not against any people”, he said.
“I spoke to Mick Hennessy who was my partner in the last negotiation, and is the partner now”. I won’t put a bid in at all – they know that.
