Google Announces New Emojis and Fonts Coming to Nexus Phones Next Week
In addition to the new emojis, Google also plans to introduce new fonts and a brand-new keyboard.
Google’s confirmed that the new emoji, which include favourites such as unicorn, taco and burrito, will hit Nexus devices as early as next week. A tweet from the Android executive showed a Unicorn, a Lion’s head and a Crab.
Lockheimer said on Twitter that he doesn’t want to “spoil all the surprises”, so it’s likely we’ll be hearing of some other changes to Android in the near future.
Android is getting new emoji, in an update set to first roll out next week to Nexus phones.
Google recently launched its new Nexus devices for the year 2016, aka Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P which have been built by LG and Huawei respectively. For other Android users, you might have to be patient before this update reaches your phone.
Last month, Apple updated its devices with the Unicode 8.0 emojis via its iOS 9.1 update. And that means that a system update is on the way.
These new emoji included the robot, the turkey, and the middle finger, according to emoji news site Emojipedia.
Obviously, it remains to be seen how many of these Android OEMs will be delivering the new features via software updates, and how many will choose to ignore it completely.
