5 fifth-grade students detained for plotting to attack New Jersey school
Five elementary school children from Clifton, New Jersey have been arrested for allegedly planning to set off an explosive device at the high school. The Record reports, “The students from the Merselis Avenue elementary school were to attend an event at the high school, which was canceled following the discovery”.
School authorities informed the police after finding the letters, CBS New York reported.
Clifton Police spokesman Robert Bracken said the device was filled with vinegar and cinnamon, and so would not have exploded. Police also said someone else may have helped the students come up with the plan.
The students, ages 10-11, were caught by teachers at School 11 who found their written plan about the alleged attack.
The five students were detained and later released to their parents. However, no official charges have been filed against them yet.
FOX News The students had allegedly planned to bomb an assembly at Clifton High School. The Bergen County prosecutor’s office is reviewing whether they will be charged.
