Newcastle’s McClaren calls for unity before Liverpool visit
It never rains but it pours for Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren!
The Magpies dropped back into the relegation zone after their heavy defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace last time out as the team fell to their second loss on the spin.
There is unrest among supporters and McClaren concedes the mood is not good.
The Magpies have won just two games all season under the stewardship of the ex-England manager and are in a state of disarray, leading to growing calls amongst the club’s support for him to be sacked.
McClaren will know he needs to improve his struggling side in January, and with the board behind him for now, he knows he can’t afford to make any mistakes as to who comes in and who he lets go during the January transfer window.
‘I was speaking to one of the players the other day, and we said that four or five wins in one year does not do much for confidence.
“If the right opportunities came up in the major leagues I’d be interested”. It’s tough, but you’ve got to get on with it’.
Newcastle United’s players have been training hard ahead of Liverpool’s visit to St James’ Park in order to try and turn around their recent form.
Newcastle have the added headache of an injury to centre back Mike Williamson, who is set for a scan on a hamstring problem he picked up in training.
