Denver Nuggets’ Lawson to seek treatment after arrest
Lawson’s next court appearance in Denver was set for August 20, but that will now change until his treatment program is completed.
Lawson is charged with speeding, carelss driving and DUI after he was pulled over on Park Avenue West in January.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Detroit Pistons are also said to be interested in acquiring the Nuggets star, according to Sports Illustrated.
The Denver Nuggets are exploring their trade options for point guard Ty Lawson after drafting Emmanuel Mudiay.
The 27-year-old Lawson was arrested last Tuesday morning on suspicion of drunken driving on state Route 101 in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
Lawson played for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels for three seasons, including the 2009 championship team.
“He displayed several signs of symptoms of alcohol intoxication”, officer Kevin Tao told The Denver Post. After those two campaigns, Lawson becomes a free agent. The Kings have weeded out their roster and picked up some talented players.
Though Lawson is not really in the niche of stellar guards like Chris Paul or Russell Westbrook, he has proven that he can carry a team despite being only 5-foot-11. Lakers head coach Byron Scott also agreed to that, adding Russsell has plenty of work left to meet his full potential. If Lawson cleans up his act, he could be a valuable addition to any of these teams.
The Lakers already have a bright future in that position with Jordan Clarkson, D’Angelo Russell, and Ronnie Price. He was third in the National Basteball Association in assists last season, averaging 9.6 per game to go along with 15.2 points per game. It was his second DUI-related arrest in 2015.
Maybe Lawson just needs a change of scenery though? If the Nuggets lower their demands, perhaps someone will take a chance on Lawson. While he’s a very good player, Lawson is not a superstar.
