Chennai floods: Jet Airways to allow refund, rescheduling tickets for Chennai
Sri Lanka’s national carrier, SriLankan Airlines has cancelled fourteen more flights between Colombo and Chennai following the extension of the Chennai International Airport closure.
Dr. Sharma said some private airlines had also agreed to operate flights from Arakkonam in the next two days.
However, air traffic services for the overflying traffic were not affected.
With the Chennai airport closed till December 6 following heavy rains and flood, the nearby naval air station at Arakonnam is likely to be turned into a makeshift airport for commercial flights from tomorrow. As a sequel, flights from Madurai to Chennai had to be cancelled.

Airports Authority of India chairman R K Shrivastava in New Delhi said that around 250-300 passengers are stranded at the Chennai airport. “All our operations at Chennai Airport have been suspended till further instructions as the airport is water-logged and the tarmac is submerged in one and half feet of water”, SpiceJet said in a release.
The defence forces actively involved in relief and rescue efforts in rain-battered Tamil Nadu brought 99 passengers stranded at the Chennai airport to Hyderabad today. On Wednesday, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had said 34 aircraft of various airlines were grounded at Chennai airport.
The situation at the airport would be reviewed again tomorrow (today) before giving the go ahead for resumption of flight operations, Srivastava said.
Hotels in and around West Perumal Maistry Street said that 25 to 30 per cent of their room reservations were cancelled as their customers were stuck in Chennai.
Meanwhile, the flight cancellations forced over 1,000 passengers to make alternative arrangements.
