Georgia’s Richt still interested in coaching
He won the conference title in 2002 and 2005, making five appearances. Georgia were 5-10 against the Gators under Richt, including losing the last two games, humiliated 27-3 this season, their lowest scoring performance in this rivalry since getting shut out in 1984.
“I talked to Jacob (Sunday) night”, Richt told The Telegraph in Macon. “We had a good, mature adult conversation on Sunday morning, an hour-and-a-half or so”.
“No, he hasn’t said a thing yet”, Ragland said.
Speculations have emerged on the possibility that Kirby Smart, defensive coordinator of Alabama, may come in, but Georgia does not offer enough to attract now successful head coaches.
Clearly, Richt is expecting his phone to ring as he takes time “to prayerfully consider what is next”. Now the color commentator for the Georgia football team’s radio network, he said Richt gave young football players a vision to serve as great members to society. Although he and the Cougars are working on a new deal that is expected to pay him at least $3 million annually, it’s not done, he said Monday at his regularly scheduled news conference. “I think decisions of this nature are hard”. Mark has tremendous support. “I didn’t know for sure about Mark, because there was no record. It goes with the territory”. We’re very excited about our future. “These things takes twists and turns along the way … but I don’t anticipate that happening”. With the two schools both seemingly chasing Alabama the past 8 seasons in the SEC, frustration has clearly grown amongst Tigers and Bulldogs fans. “Win the SEC and hopefully go beyond that”. He built a reputation as a gracious coach who did his job in the correct manner. Only Vince Dooley (201) won more games at Georgia.
Whether at USC or somewhere else, Richt still has a place in the coaching profession. Richt could certainly succeed in College Park; his excellent 15-year run at Georgia in the SEC confirms as much. Fans flocked to Twitter and Facebook, not to voice their displeasure with Richt’s removal, but to honor the former coach.
At a press conference on Monday, Richt said he was open to coaching again, but him landing at Maryland would come as a surprise, especially considering his alma mater, Miami, has an opening. “His legacy is well intact”. As a result, he’ll have the next 14 days to contemplate his future endeavors, whatever they may be. Our sport is a very passionate sport and a very public sport, and you can’t have all the excitement and the cheering without the other. He’s outgoing, he’s got a good personality, I think he’ll do a good job in all of the other areas that you’re talking about. “I want to wish Katharyn and the Richt family all the best”. That’s the prerogative of the people in charge.
Since it was announced on Sunday, a number of potential candidates from across college football have been pointed at as the successor to Mark Richt at UGA.
“My wife and I will be fine”, Richt said. These ACC schools and teams from the Big 12 can just cruise through their weaker competition and hope to get a win in one big game at the end.
Indianapolis isn’t going to move on from Pagano just to hire another no name head coach.
