Stories of those who died in the mass shooting in California
On a sidewalk several blocks from the shooting scene, Van Nguyen sat on the pavement late Thursday morning, sobbing, as loved ones formed a wall around her. Nguyen’s daughter, Tin Nguyen, 31, of Santa Ana, in Orange County, was one of the 14 people killed in Wednesday’s shooting, the family said.
Thalasinos was a San Bernardino County employee, said Vincent Armijo, a leader with Shiloh Messianic Congregation church in Crestline where Thalasinos and his wife were members.
Beck said he and his wife had just spoken to Thalasinos and Sunday and described the former NJ man as “a really nice guy” with “good work ethic”.

San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said some of the victims in the attack are co-workers of Farook’s, but he did not specify how many. “I can’t get ahold of him”.
Armijo said he also works for the county in a storage and distribution site about a half mile away from where the shooting took place.
Some online speculated Thursday that those viewpoints may have made Thalasinos a target.
“I have some people in the congregation who you would know like that, but that was not the way I knew Nick”, he said.
In the fundraiser posting, organizer Celia Behar wrote that wife Renee Wetzel sent her a message stating: “Please pray”. There are multiple people dead/shot.
They also shared a love for science fiction and fantasy, wrote Lisa Howard, who began the fundraising page to raise money to pay for Nicholas Thalasinos’ funeral and associated costs.
Eight hours later, the site said Wetzel’s wife was contacted by police.
Thalasinos’ friend, Kuuleme Stephens, said she happened to call him while he was working with Farook, and that he brought her into their debate, loudly declaring that Farook “doesn’t agree that Islam is not a peaceful religion”.
Michael Wetzel also worked as an environmental health specialist with San Bernardino County.
“Other victims have been identified as Damian Meins, a physical education teacher at St. Catherine’s School in Riverside, and who his boss called a bright light” that had been “extinguished from our world in a most tragic way”. She is the principal of Sacred Heart School in Rancho Cucamonga.
