Psychonauts 2 Developers Launch Crowdfunding Campaign
One of the most acclaimed games of all time, Psychonauts, is finally getting a sequel, if developer Double Fine can get $3.3 million via crowdfunding. Double Fine will also be opening up the investment options to regular backers, a first for Fig, offering them the same investment opportunities as their accredited counterparts.
Speaking to IGN, Double Fine Creative Director Tim Schafer said Unreal 4 “allows us to focus on the game instead of the tech. We’ve had an art jam and figured out locations, but it’s still in the early design phase”.
The original Psychonauts followed a young boy with psychic powers training to become a spy. If we live in a just and caring world.
Psychonauts 2 is in development, but it won’t get made without the help of its fans.
In 2012 Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson offered to fund a sequel to Psychonauts, but eventually backed out due to the game’s $18 million budget, which proved bigger than expected. Double Fine has also pledged a large amount of their own money for the project and hinted they had at least one other major investor for the project.
Psychonauts 2 will explore more of Raz’s backstory, including his family’s curse to always die in water, as well as more adventures through different minds.
Timm Schafer will be the project lead on Psychonauts 2, with Erik Wolpaw returning to create the story and script and Khris Brown directing.
