Palestinian shot dead after alleged vehicle attack
Israeli forces shot and killed two Palestinians after they allegedly rammed their cars into soldiers in separate attacks in the West Bank on Friday as the Israeli defense minister urged Israelis to brace themselves for more violence, saying he can not see an end to the alleged Palestinian attacks.
Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said the man got out of a taxi near a military post and began running toward officers.
A 21-year-old Palestinian was killed earlier in the day during clashes between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers in the West Bank Palestinian town of Qatanna, 12 km northwest of Jerusalem. Israel says 57 of these were attackers, while the rest died in clashes with security forces. Israeli forces have killed 90 Palestinians, some while carrying out assaults and others in clashes with police and troops.
They later confirmed the suspect had died and the army said the two Israelis were soldiers. Palestinians accuse Israel of using excessive force in suppressing violence.
Kerry reportedly rejected an Israeli proposal to halt building in outlying settlements in exchange for recognition of construction in major blocs Israel hopes to hold onto in a final status deal.
On the way towards the police station where the Palestinian boys were taken by the Israeli forces – near the Ibrahimi mosque-two global human rights activists were documenting the events at the scene.
“We intend to bring a far more massive barrier there”, he said.
More than 100 people have been killed in violence in the Occupied Palestinian Territories in recent months.
On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a series of new security measures likely to affect the daily lives of Palestinians in the West Bank. Palestinians, meanwhile, have said it is rooted in frustrations over Israel’s nearly-half-century-long occupation of the West Bank. Children as young as 11 have stabbed Israelis in the current unrest.
