Wladimir Klitschko takes up rematch option against Fury
And so boxing has a new heavyweight champion, with Fury having grabbed Klitschko’s WBA Super, IBF and WBO belts and set himself up for some serious paydays, rematch or otherwise.
Klitschko is also said to be keen on a rematch but it would mean Fury vacating the IBF world heavyweight belt in order to facilitate such a contest. It’s ridiculous. We’re happy to defend it…There’s no way we can take the fight before Klitschko.
Tyson Fury may be the new heavyweight champion of the world but Joseph Parker believes it is only a matter of time before the belt is strapped around his waist.
Tyson’s trainer and uncle Peter Fury said: “Wladimir is a fighting man and won’t want to go out like that. I told him, ‘I want you next, ‘ and he said, ‘You better have your excuses ready for the press conference, ‘ but I didn’t need any”, he said. “I felt quite comfortable in the first six rounds, but I was astonished that Tyson was so fast in the second half as well”. We’re really looking forward to this fight. “The IBF need to get a grip with it, they need to speak with us and they need to get behind Tyson Fury”. Tyson has to fight Klitschko.
Peter Fury revealed he favoured the rematch to be in England and revealed promoter Mick Hennessy was looking at Wembley Stadium as a venue.
“I’m quite confident the fight can be a mega fight here in the United Kingdom and I’m hopeful the fight can end up here”. “Since January 2012 we’ve had about three weeks’ break”. One thing I can say about the rematch is it’s going to be explosive. But even if you wanted to say that Glazkov deserved wins in all of those fights, it’s extremely troubling how close those fights were.
Klitschko has taken up the rematch clause contract in the original fight and insists he will prove he is better than he showed in losing to Fury on Saturday. “I couldn’t show my full potential at any time”. “He’s been a great champion, but every good dog has its day”. “Failure is not an option”.
