Wet weather could be problematic for Christmas tree business

Tree lots will tell you their trees aren’t just any trees, and that’s why they are priced higher than the national shops.

While some may have their Christmas tree hunting down pat, for others it may be a first time adventure – and there’s one classic tree that Kodey said people can’t go wrong with.

Now they’re grown up and bringing her grandchildren to the tree farm for a hayride to find the flawless tree with family.

“For me it is about getting my boys out in the woods for a walk and fresh air and it is a tradition. Instead of buying one at Home Depot so we drive out here every year”, Gardner says.

The month of December starts this week, and Christmas trees are on a lot of shopping lists.

No one wants to see a holiday ruined by a house fire that can destroy more than the gifts under a Christmas tree.

“We try not to sell trees before Thanksgiving because they’re live trees and they’ll dry up if you put them up too early”, he said. If the tree is not sucking up the water, cut off the bottom of the tree so it will start sucking up the water again. This helps to ensure future years of tree sales, and tree replacement is always a good practice.

“The trees didn’t suffer”, Steed said.

“Sometimes when OR has a drought the trees are terrible, but this is not one of those years”, Mike added.

This holiday season there are thousands of American servicemen and women who won’t be able to celebrate at home.

“It’s just not Christmas without a real tree”, Hamilton said.

The property has belonged to Szuber’s family for years and their overall mission is to keep this a family fun farm.

“Generally I think our trees are looking very good this year. There wasn’t a lot of tree damage this year”.

“There’s certainly a large portion of people who don’t get trees and our industry can pick up new customers”, he said. Harper has bought artificial trees in the past but said it’s just not the same.
