What Reporter Behind Touted 9/11 Report Says About Trump’s Claims

Bishop George Bloomer of Bethel Family Worship Center in Durham, North Carolina arrived at Monday’s meeting with Donald Trump with great skepticism about the outcome, especially on issues of race, he told The Associated Press.

But on Tuesday, MTV News republished the full news report, which shows a young New Jersey resident who describes seeing “13, maybe 14 at most” teenagers apparently celebrating.

MTV recently rereleased that video, and got in touch with one of the two sources that the report was based on.

All of that notwithstanding, it is simply unhelpful when Donald Trump grossly misrepresents what actually happened in this country in the days following the attacks of September 11, 2001. It featured Emily Avecedo saying that she saw people with rocks and sticks saying “burn America”. What she saw on 9/11 was “not anything any different than would’ve happened on any other summer night”, Acevedo said.

In the more recent interview, Acevedo recalled seeing “a dozen or so kids” gathered near the library “being very loud, being very rambunctious”.

“There were tens of thousands of people around the world celebrating”, he said, “and some were in NY and New Jersey”.

“They are prostituting themselves and, in essence, the black church”, Bryant said. “I should’ve communicated to them better”, Scott said. Since 9/11, we’ve seen the attacks in Fort Hood, Boston and Chattanooga not to mention the near attacks in Times Square and aboard Northwest Flight 253.

The New York Times, reporting on that meeting, suggested the GOP frontrunner wants to confront skepticism about his candidacy and project sensitivity about minority concerns. “I won’t do the debate unless they pay me $5 million and the money goes to wounded warriors or vets”, he said, reported Fox News. A newly released poll by Quinnipiac, taken entirely after Trump’s original statement about Muslims celebrating and mostly following the commentary “debunking” his claim, has Trump increasing his support by 3 percentage points. He has also said that the video was edited, and that his comments were taken out of context. “I don’t see that (blacks) consider the fact that Donald Trump is a Republican”, observes Jesse Lee Peterson of Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny, or BOND.
