Stephen Curry scores 40, Warriors improve to 20-0
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry reacts to an official’s call as his team plays the Charlotte Hornets in the first half of an NBA basketball game Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, in Charlotte, N.C. The previous record was 31 games by Ray Allen (2005-06) and Ryan Anderson (2012-13), according to Elias research.
The Warriors shot 52.3 percent from the field for the game and were 16 of 34 from three-point range. “Then the Panthers will get their Super Bowl win and we’ll have the record for consecutive wins”. If he kept up that pace in the final quarter, he would be averaging closer to 36 points per game. That’s still 46 points shy of the 100 point record Wilt Chamberlain scored in March of 1962, though.
Curry, the son of Dell, who retired as the Hornets’ all-time leading points-scorer, poured in a sensational 40 points, including 28 in the all-important third quarter which ultimately decided the outcome of the contest.
In other games it was: Rockets 108, Pelicans 101; Pistons 127, Suns 122 (overtime); Spurs 95, Bucks 70; Pacers 103, Clippers 91.
He has five 40-point hauls, including 53 point performance at New Orleans. He ranks second in steals per game this season (2.4), trailing only Kyle Lowry. The defending NBA Champs have won 20 games in a row to start their season and there seem to be no signs of them slowing down.
Even more, they understand that Curry is the flawless person to do this and handle it all-for example, Curry only started shooting this often when he realized it was the best thing for the team. Coming off of a championship last season, they’re clearly a team that’s going to be gunning for the title this year as well. (The Wizards are second with 18.2).
Bryant entered his lone appearance in Washington shooting 30.1 percent from the field. However, starting point guard Kemba Walker struggled for just 4 points missing 14-of-16 shots. Curry ranks fourth in catch-and-shoot points per game, but his teammate Klay Thompson ranks first with 9.1 catch-and-shoot points per game.
You can imagine the result: Just as Jordan’s career produced thousands of players trying to dunk every time they touched the ball, Curry’s highlight reel could create legions of three-point shooters who can’t actually shoot.
As part of his destruction of the Hornets on Wednesday, Curry added eight more threes to his résumé, giving him a ridiculous 102 made already on the season.
