Senate passes Obamacare repeal, heads to Obama’s desk
The Obama administration has previously said that the president would veto any legislation that repeals Obamacare. They include 2016 candidates like Sen. But Republicans seemed content with Obama vetoing the bill, saying the vote was about holding the president and Democrats responsible for a law they consider “broken”.
The fact that Senate Republicans chose to hold this vote during the holiday season spoke volumes about their priorities. Thursday’s vote comes as the Senate moves toward approval of a bill that would all but repeal the president’s health care law. And Americans are exhausted of being condescended to. They want better care. “This bill offers it”.
The Senate on Thursday narrowly passed a bill that would repeal large parts of Obamacare, which now heads back to the House for one more vote.
Democrats sought to score political points by offering an amendment sponsored by Sen. Those are four of the states Democrats have targeted in their efforts to regain the Senate majority and Democrats are attempting to cast this vote as Republicans taking that benefit away.
Similarly, Portman spokeswoman Caitlin Conant said Portman is “pleased” to support a bill that defunds Planned Parenthood and redirects its millions of patients to community health centers.
The Senate passed the bill along party lines, 52-47, with only two Republicans – Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Marco Rubio of Florida and Mike Lee of Utah, who said it wasn’t enough to just scrap the law’s insurance mandates on individuals and employers and its taxes on medical device sales and generous employer plans. Ayotte is also up for re-election, and her race is considered a key battleground in the fight over abortion rights. Bozek said in an email. This year, they’ll have a special procedure at their disposal to get around that.
Most of the vulnerable Republican senators didn’t shy from the vote – and even promoted their support. Congress has voted dozens of times to repeal or weaken the health law and several times against Planned Parenthood’s funding, but until now Democrats thwarted Republicans from shipping the legislation to the White House.
Some Republicans are also clearly nervous about the political implications of throwing millions of Americans off of their insurance, which is why GOP leadership has said that both provisions would be implemented gradually, to give time for Republicans to design an “alternative” health law.
The elimination of the Medicaid expansion and subsidies for health coverage would be delayed for two years.
Since before my first day in office, I pledged to do everything within my power to repeal Obamacare, he said.
“I think Virginians are going to be very excited about this vote today”, said Jessica Cochrane, executive vice president at The Family Foundation.
The White House was quick to issue a veto threat and make sure that this legislation is DOA, “The Administration strongly opposes Senate passage of the Senate amendment to H.R. 3762”.
