Peyton Manning had the cast removed from his injured foot
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will be assessed on a week-to-week basis and has no fixed target for returning to action following an injury in Sunday night’s defeat to Denver.
The Broncos, who play the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, have gone 2-0 with Brock Osweiler at quarterback.
Quarterback Brock Osweiler, who was starting for the first time in his four-year career to fill in for injured starter Peyton Manning, was unfazed by the defending Super Bowl Champions.
The Denver Broncos’ 39-year-quarterback told a select group of news outlets Wednesday, including The Associated Press, that he has no idea when he’ll play again.
Manning is recovering from a plantar fascia tear in his left foot and was taken out of a walking cast on Tuesday.
Asked for a timetable for getting Ponder up to speed, Kubiak said, “I don’t really have one”.
Manning said he had not talked to head Coach Gary Kubiak about whether he would make the trip.
Osweiler made the right call in overtime on a third-and-one, checking to a run that sprung C.J.
“I am thankful that it is nothing serious”, Gronkowski said. Cole’s report about Manning essentially being benched could be completely erroneous, but the rehab for his foot will likely take us right up to the last game or two of the regular season in a best case scenario. However, at this point, Denver needs to decide if they want to continue to ride out the twilight of Manning, or enter the dawn of Osweiler. “I was like, ‘Whoa!’ You know, he’s got a huge frame and they’re going to attack it, but he’s a tough kid, he’s going to get up and he’s going to do what’s best for the team”. “All the other questions and speculation, I don’t have anything for you on that”. “It’s not just that he practiced with us (every Wednesday even when Manning was healthy)”.
I don’t believe a “decision has been made”, and I believe that if the Broncos think Peyton can play better than Brock, he’ll still be the starting QB.
“But you know, I think Rob is trying to play within the rules 100 percent of the time”.
“Just start fast, don’t start slow, keep on the outside, let them stay on the outside and focus on the task on hand”.
“Some of those are his (responsibility) that we’ve got to get corrected”, Kubiak said. But, I believe that the Broncos present and future does not include Peyton Manning. At the end of the day, whether the Broncos decide to go back to Manning or not, it’s clear that the Osweiler era is ready to begin, and it’s here faster than a lot of us expected. I’ve always been a team player.
