Joe Gibbs believes Carolina Panthers can go undefeated
I really do. Could we have been a good undefeated team, yeah, the ’85 team might have been. For more information, visit our glossary.
Despite an inconsistent run of form the Packers, who sit second in the NFC North, the play-offs are still a realistic possibility – but rumours of dressing room arguments do not bode well.
That run now has them squarely in the spotlight as the NFL’s lone unbeaten team. The Cardinals have an 11.52 nERD, and the third-place Patriots have an 8.69 mark.
The Panthers play the Saints on Sunday. They have the best record in the (NFL).
How are they doing it?
In 2013, Norman again had to watch while the defense helped split the series with the Saints.
A playoff berth is within reach for the Bengals, who need a win over the hapless Browns and losses by Houston, Indianapolis and the Jets as the most clear entry point. “If that’s what the good Lord wants, then I would welcome that challenge”, McDermott said. Whilst this season’s performance may not warrant an immediate sacking come black Monday, Kelly may just decide to return to the league that showcases his talents the best. He essentially neutralizes the opposition’s top receiving threat. “There is no doubt that Kuechly is a huge part of that defense”.
Although the 1 on their win-loss record will no doubt be painful, the injuries the Patriots have sustained might become even harder to deal with.
If an opponent can have early success with the misdirection, it could cause Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis to begin to hesitate with their first step while looking for the counter.
And of course, any great pass defense has a defensive line that can get pressure on the quarterback. “We still can lose like four or five”.
What’s it all add up to?
The Panthers lead the league with 18 interceptions, and a big reason behind that is their ball hawks in the secondary. The opposition completes 58.6% of their passes, which is fourth-worst. Gano already had converted from 49 yards. 500 and they both could make the playoffs!!!
GAME PLAN: Even though the Saints gave up 24 points and 362 yards in a loss to the Texans in Week 12, that was a big improvement from their averaged allowed in their previous three games: 43.3 points and 470 yards.
Now let’s take a look at the rush defense. A decent number, sure, but one that ranks them 11th in the league.
The Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers round out the top 10. Newton has one scamper that went 20+ yards and has gained a first down in 38 of his 98 rushing attempts (38.8 percent), which is an excellent percentage. He’s torn his ACL twice during his career, and as recently as last season, yet he’s come back and been as good as he’s ever been.
None of those teams are particularly playing well. Their 30.2 points per game ranks them third in the NFL. He plays the game more like a linebacker and a receiver all mixed into one.
Obviously, everything revolves around Newton, the Alpha and Omega of the Panthers offense.
The other thing it would be nice for the Saints to do is put emphasis on tight end Greg Olsen, who had eight receptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns in the first game. Olsen has 53 receptions for 788 yards along with six touchdowns.
These end zone theatrics have caused a stir among players, coaches and analysts who say the practice goes against unwritten rules of sportsmanship. “So I’m going to continue to try to do my better each and every week, and I’m asking the players to do the same”. Gano had field goals from 49, 43, 25 and 50 yards on a day when the offense struggled to score touchdowns.
But you know what? The question is, which team prohibits perfection?
