Opposition Disrupts Rajya Sabha Over VK Singh’s Dog Remark, RSS Chief
After protests over intolerance, the Congress is likely to attack the government by demanding the resignation of Union Minister General (retd) VK Singh, sources said. “Yesterday the attitude of government on V.K. Singh is very sad”, she said.
Deputy chairperson PJ Kurien said he didn’t have a notice on the issue from the member and asked her to submit a notice.
Immediately thereafter, SP members rushed into the Well of the House raising slogans.
With members of the two parties not listening to his pleas for order, Kurien adjourned the House for 15 minutes.
Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Ramgopal Yadav raised the issue of Bhagwat’s remarks and demanded action against him for spreading communal tension.
During the Vajpayee government, the Congress had boycotted the then defence minister George Fernandes in Parliament over the coffin scam.
Amid the din, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, “They (opposition) are trying to make an issue of non-issue. That is why we feel that this is being done only for political gains”, he said.
Replying to a query on passage of Goods and Service Tax bill, Ms Dev said, party has made its stand clear to the government during the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh.
A day prior, Goyal had described Selja’s personal experience of being asked her caste while visiting a Dwarka temple as “another incident of manufactured problem and manufactured discrimination” against which the “hurt” MP received the sympathy from nearly the whole opposition leaving the house in a limbo.
“The statement on Ram temple by RSS chief (Bhagwat) will divide the country even though the case is pending before the Supreme Court”.
Naqvi said “ours (stand) is true commitment and not politically motivated”.
The party is likely to hold a dharna seeking Singh’s sack from the Union ministry for his comment “likening Dalits to dogs” as alleged by the opposition.
The house was adjourned till noon.
