Women’s economic organization backs Clinton
Earlier in the day, Clinton spoke at a forum on economic opportunity for women at Southern New Hampshire University, where she reportedly told the crowd she “will not be silenced” in her call this election cycle for stricter gun control legislation.
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said Wednesday that Republican rivals Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio would “slash” spending on projects to fix aging roads and bridges, urging Congress to pass a plan to rebuild the nation’s transportation system. Gun control has emerged as an issue following a recent series of mass shootings. Law enforcement officials said Thursday that Farook was apparently radicalized and in touch with people being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for worldwide terrorism. “It’s important to remember”, she said, “the vast majority of Muslim Americans are just as concerned and heartbroken about this as anyone else”.
“They should not have been able to do this”, no matter “what motivated” the shooters, Clinton said.
Clinton concluded her speech Thursday saying that we won’t be able to eliminate all tragedies, but, “we sure could to a lot to lower the number and increase the odds for people”.
“It’s becoming clearer that we are dealing with an act of terrorism”, Clinton said. “If we’re not going to control guns, I don’t even want to hear about how many people are getting killed”.
Sanders said Thursday that mass shootings had reached “epidemic levels” this year. “Yesterday, San Bernardino, a few days ago, Colorado Springs, before that Roseburg, Oregon, before that Chattanooga, Tennessee, and on and on it goes”, Sanders said in a statement. “In these times of worldwide strife and uncertainty, our nation needs a leader with the toughness, strength, intelligence and experience to successfully steer the United States through tumultuous waters”.
“The sad reality is that in America today there are many thousands of people who are walking our streets who are suicidal or homicidal”.
“On this issue, where people who are too unsafe to fly in America can still buy guns in America, there should be no debate”, said Clinton, speaking to more than 400 at a town hall meeting here.
“You didn’t see me leap up off the chair when she said we got to protect women’s rights?” asked one supporter.
“They’re all afraid of the NRA”, Desmond said. “She acknowledges, in stark contrast to the other candidates in this presidential race, that this is a national problem which requires a bold, national, and realistic solution, not a pie-in-the-sky dream or a piecemeal approach”.
Clinton also addressed pre-kindergarten education, college tuition reform and called for a confrontation with the gun lobbyists.
