Coldplay Super Bowl show ‘our greatest moment’
MBW understands that the huge United Kingdom band’s hotly anticipated new album, A Head Full Of Dreams, will be on paid streaming services including Apple Music and TIDAL when it’s released around the world at midnight tonight (December 4).
In 2014, Coldplay were one of the finalists in addition to Rihanna and Katy Perry and it was the most-watched television event of the year, drawing 121 million viewers. Less wild with abandon than happily loose, they sound like a rock band stylistically at ease with the times.
Broadcast live on Annie Mac’s show on BBC Radio 1, the intimate gig featured songs including Viva La Vida, A Sky Full Of Stars and Fix You. Apparently they’ve been cooking up the clip ever Chris Martin’s chance airborne meeting with King Kong motion capture guy Andy Serkis. “Use the restroom? If you stay now you’re with us for the next seven hours!” “Yesterday, what I was nervous about was all about the set list”.
“The band’s team aren’t anti-Spotify, they’re just not in love with “free” – you can probably expect it to drop on the service after a few weeks”, a source told music-industry site Music Business Worldwide.
Coldplay is headlining the Super Bowl halftime show, and a spokesman for the National Football League hinted that past halftime performers could join the band onstage. U.S. President Barack Obama is sampled on two tracks, while Paltrow sings on the richly melodic and redemptive “Everglow” and both Oasis alumnus Noel Gallagher and vocal force of nature Merry Clayton bring more heft to the buoyant album closer “Up&Up”.
A Head Full Of Dreams has been produced by Norwegian duo Stargate, consisting Of Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Storleer Eriksen, alongside the band’s long-time collaborator Rik Simpson.
“Revitalized, they’ve made an album that’s bursting with energy, color and big, life-affirming moments such as the deliciously ebullient first single “Adventure of a Lifetime” and the rocket-powered ‘Hymn for theWeekend, ‘” reads a press release.
When and where to get Coldplay tickets: Concert tickets for April dates in Chile, Peru, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico go on sale this week, and prospective ticket buyers can head directly to the bands tour page to purchase tickets.
