Further Probe 1984 Riots Case Against Tytler, Court To CBI
Following is the chronology of events in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case in the CBI was today directed to further investigate the matter against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler.
Abhishek Verma in his statement told the CBI that Tytler had told him in 2008 that he had met the then prime minister after which he got a clean chit for his alleged role in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.
Based on Akali’s claim, CBI had told the court that they were willing to re-investigate the case if their addresses were made available.
On November 10, Kaur had also filed another plea seeking the court’s permission and some time to enable her to provide fresh information regarding witnesses quoted in the CBI’s final report. “The CBI is willing to examine the aforesaid witnesses…as they may be essential for a just decision in the case”, the agency had said, in its reply.
The CBI had earlier informed the court that these witnesses were not traceable.

“The objective of investigation is to unearth true facts and the CBI may do all that is required to achieve that goal”, the court said, adding that in the interest of justice, investigation in the case will be monitored by the court on bi-monthly basis so that no aspect of the case was left uninvestigated.

The agency took this stand in a submission filed a local court which had listed the case for pronouncement of order on whether to accept the agency’s closure report.
