Jurgen Klopp considers starting Daniel Sturridge for Liverpool
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has keyed into the expectation of the club’s loyal fans who expect them to win their Sunday game against Newcastle United.
Emre Can is suspended for the tip to St James’ Park and a decision will be taken on what level of involvement Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson will have as they continue their own comebacks. “Now I know what everyone is talking about him, I have seen it first hand”, Klopp said of Sturridge, who was told to toughen up by his manager last week after the striker’s spate of injuries. He tried everything he could.
Asked about McClaren’s future, Klopp said: “I had seven years at Dortmund, seven years at Mainz, so in my opinion (stability is) very important”.
“We have to be careful with the muscle”. The muscle is a unsafe thing when you are always on your feet, and when you don’t feel comfortable then stop.
“Yesterday nobody gave me this sign, so we will have to wait today”. “It’s possible we could play the same team again”. One of those wins was 3-0 at West Brom last season shortly after Tony Pulis took over at the Hawthorns and the home side will struggle to close the gap in class. “That’s normal. But in this moment he is available for the weekend”, said Klopp.
“Now they are back and that’s really good for us”. “We chose to give him 60 minutes – it was good for him and us”.
“Sometimes it can be bad luck, even for a long period, but he felt good during the game and at the end of it”.
While coach Jürgen Klopp wears his heart on his sleeve on the sidelines, he’s more reserved when trying to express his satisfaction about Liverpool’s remarkable play that’s spanned more than a month.
The midweek line-up for Southampton had seven changes from last weekend’s league win over Swansea City and the manner of the victory showed that Klopp does have some options available to him, and some decent competition for places.
By the time Arsenal and Manchester United arrive at Anfield in the same week in mid-January, we could be looking at two games which bring back memories of the Man City and Chelsea games in late 2013/14.
“Hendo has made a big step and that’s the best news because there were some doubts about the heel”. “We try to do what we can to keep him fit”.
