Obama says motive for California shooting not yet clear
A group of Senate Democrats say they will call for a vote on amendments to address gun violence in the wake of the mass shooting in San Bernardino, California.

Revelations that the suspects may have communicated with extremists and stockpiled weapons awkwardly shifted the conversation from familiar arguments about gun laws to what, if anything, could be done to block radicalized, homegrown attackers from striking targets at home?
The President appeared saddened as he spoke after being briefed on today’s attack, and called for “common sense gun safety laws”. Farook travelled to Saudi Arabia earlier this year, and investigators have said that terrorism has not been ruled out.

President Baracj Obama responded to the shooting from Paris, where he was attending a global climate change summit.
“At this stage we do not yet know why this awful event occurred”, he said. “I don’t understand – actually I do understand why it’s controversial”. “I think so many Americans sometimes feel as if there is nothing we can do about it”. Less than a week ago we had the shooting in Colorado.
“It’s not enough to keep lamenting these things”, she said.
Karl asked, “Shouldn’t the discussion be how to prevent what happened yesterday from happening?”
“What I can assure the American people is we will get to the bottom of this and we will be vigilant as we always are in getting the facts before we issue any decisive judgement”, Obama said.
Obama’s latest response – notably cautious on the motive behind the California shooting – followed a briefing he received by Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.
“It could. It could”.
Earnest repeated his answer three times.
“It’s a hypothetical”, Earnest said.
