Henry hints at Arsenal rest for Sanchez
Chilean forward Sanchez is facing a three week lay-off with the hamstring injury which saw him limp off at Norwich on Sunday.
Sanchez’s latest setback is likely to see him miss Arsenal’s upcoming Champions League decider at Olympiakos, a game they must win by two clear goals in order to qualify for the knockout stage.
Of course a competitor as fierce as Sanchez is going to want to play every minute of every game.
However, I think the manager needs to have a word with him about his role when playing on the right. “I don’t know if he has jaded his knee ligament or it was just a kick on the nerve but the worrying thing was it got worse during the game”.
Poor ol’ Arsenal… Arsene Wenger really either needs to change the way his players are training… or fire the entire medical team… because the number of injuries every season is becoming borderline ridiculous. “I would have rested him but he said he was fine to play”.
Wenger did have some good news, however, with fellow injury concerns Santi Cazorla and Laurent Koscielny expected to recover from their respective hip and knee complaints in time to face Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Both Sanchez and Koscielny were were forced off during the game with what appeared to be serious injuries and it will further deplete the Gunners line-up that are now reduced to bare bones.
Thierry Henry suggests Arsenal should have rested Alexis Sanchez at Norwich on Sunday.
Arsene Wenger fears Alexis Sanchez is playing down a hamstring injury that he suffered in Arsenal’s draw at Norwich.
“The players are there to play football and not to be rested when the press decides they need to be rested”, he said.
All-time top scorer Henry, who is now working as a youth coach at the club, says he sympathises with Wenger if Sanchez told the boss he was ready to play. Ramsey continued: “It was obviously a bit disappointing to go a goal up and to concede that goal was a bit disappointing from our view, but to be fair they did well and they deserved to get a point out of the game”. I don’t know how the guy would have taken that in the dressing room and at the end of the day it’s your decision.
