9.4%: Black Unemployment More Than Double White Unemployment
There was a record high of 38,151,000 men 16 years and older not participating in the labor force in November, while the participation rate for this demographic declined to lowest level ever recorded, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The New England unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.6% in October.
“November’s gain of 211,000 jobs, coupled with upward revisions to October and September, confirms the Fed’s view that the labor market remains robust and that wage growth could accelerate in 2016”, Levanon said.
The Labor Department also said the unemployment rate held at the more than seven-year low of 5.0 percent set in the previous month, matching expectations.
The airline industry lost 200 jobs in November, going from 454,400 in October to 454,200 last month.
Job gains were concentrated in construction, food services and drinking places, retail trade, professional and technical services, and health care. The increase is in line with the average monthly gain of 237,000 over the prior 12 months, according to the BLS.
The biggest drop in employment in the sector was in transit and ground passenger transportation, which lost 1,800 jobs last month.
On the losing side, mining employment declined by 11,000 over the month.
