Casino magnate Adelson draws GOP field to Jewish conference
The next phase in the Adelson primary comes this week during a presidential forum by the Republican Jewish Coalition, a group strongly supported by Adelson, held Thursday in Washington.
While the other candidates largely pledged allegiance to Israel, Trump stood alone among his Republican competitors in questioning the nation’s willingness to seek peace with Palestinians.
To the eternal chagrin of the Republican establishment, Donald Trump’s flare for the vague, insensitive, or unorthodox remark has still not cost the candidate his frontrunner status. “This is going to be a chance for candidates to talk candidly in real terms about foreign policy after Paris, in the context of Syria, and I think as a whole Republican candidates are going to be able to contrast their understanding of threats facing the country in contrast to the last seven years”.
Businessman Donald Trump, who has consistently led polls in key primary states, called Obama “the worst thing that’s ever happened to Israel”, and the deal with Iran a mortal blow to the alliance. “My Christians are liking me a lot lately”.
Trump’s speech was peppered with an assortment of Jewish stereotyping as he desperately tried to communicate his points. “I’m a negotiator, like you folks”, he said while discussing what he considers to be the failures of the recent nuclear deal struck with Iran. “Stupidly, you want to give me money: You’re not going to support me because I don’t want your money”, said The Donald. “Is there anybody that doesn’t renegotiate deals in this room?” One is how freely he insults, denigrates, and offends a variety of groups-to the extent that Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank flat-out calls him a bigot and a racist and criticizes other Republican candidates for being hesitant to call out Trump in the same way. “Do me a favor, just relax, OK?” He also said that the US should not put pressure on Israeli-Palestinian negotiations before the Palestinian Authority “recognize[s] the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state with secure borders”.
Trump was later booed for refusing to answer a question about where Jerusalem would fit into an eventual Trump peace deal between the Israeli government and the Palestinian people.
Trump, who previously questioned whether President Barack Obama was born a U.S. citizen, also reiterated insinuations that the president was hiding something, implying that perhaps he is crypto-Muslim.
Mike Huckabee dodged, ducked, dipped, dived and dodged when asked how he’d respond to the claim that Evangelical support for Israel has a messianic bent.
I will make clear that the pathway to peace requires an end to violence and the recognition of Israel as a Jewish state. “But you’re not going to support me because I don’t want your money”. “Because so much death, so much turmoil, so much hatred – that would be to me a great achievement”.
“Discriminatory laws that apply only to Jews are now being written into European law for the first time in more than half a century”, the Florida senator said, to sustained applause. “I will finally move our embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem”, Rubio declared.
“Hillary Clinton was tweeting about gun control while we learned that radicalized Islamic terrorists have been building pipe bombs”, she said.
